Long Reach HIAB — Placing Loads At Distance With Confidence

Some lifts are not about weight — they are about distance. Placing a load into a rear garden, onto a flat roof or across a wide site footprint needs a crane with serious outreach. Our long-reach lorries use high-capacity loader cranes with multiple hydraulic boom extensions that extend up and out to 19.5 metres.

This kind of work is one of our specialities. Our heaviest cranes — the HIAB 855 and HIAB 858, both extending 19.5 metres of hydraulic outreach — are built for exactly this: placing loads where the lorry simply cannot park alongside. Every long reach lift is planned in advance, set up on a full stabiliser span, and carried out by an experienced operator.

Typical Long-Reach Lifts

  • Placing loads at distance where the lorry cannot park alongside
  • Garden rooms, hot tubs, pods and outbuildings positioned at a distance
  • Steel beams and roof trusses placed across wide sites
  • Rooftop plant, HVAC units and air-conditioning lifts
  • Placements where the lorry cannot park beside the load
  • Lift plan and method statement supplied on request

Long Reach HIAB Hire — FAQs

How far can a long reach HIAB reach?
Our longest-reach cranes — the HIAB 855, HIAB 858 and heavy XS 700 — extend to 19.5 metres of hydraulic outreach. Lifting capacity reduces as the boom extends, so we plan each lift to suit the weight and distance.
Can you place a load where the lorry cannot park alongside?
Yes — that is exactly what our long reach cranes are for. With up to 19.5 metres of hydraulic outreach we place loads at distance from the vehicle. We assess access on every job and confirm what is achievable in advance.
Do you provide a lift plan?
For long reach and more complex lifts we can provide a lift plan and method statement on request, and the lift is carried out by an experienced operator on a full stabiliser span.
How much can you lift at full reach?
Capacity reduces with distance — for example a crane lifting heavy loads close in may lift a few tonnes at full extension. Tell us the weight and the reach required and we will confirm the right crane.
