For most construction projects, a HIAB crane truck is the single most versatile vehicle on the logistics plan. It delivers and unloads in one visit, requires no ground-based lifting equipment, and can access sites before permanent cranage is installed. Here is how to use HIAB services effectively throughout your construction programme.
Groundworks and Foundations
The first HIAB visits to a construction site typically bring in drainage pipes, ducting, concrete lintels and kerbing. Our smaller HIAB 558 or 658 handle these deliveries efficiently. For precast concrete foundation elements — pile caps, retaining wall panels, large manholes — the HIAB 858 provides the lift capacity needed.
Structural Frame
For steel-framed buildings, HIAB trucks deliver and offload structural sections to the working area. While a tower or mobile crane erects the frame, the HIAB brings steel from the storage compound to the crane's slinging area, reducing crane downtime significantly. We can coordinate with your structural steelwork contractor on delivery schedules.
Cladding and Roofing
Sheet metal cladding, roofing panels and insulated composite panels are often delivered on a HIAB to be placed directly onto the roof or building envelope from the vehicle. This avoids the need to unload and rehandle materials at ground level.
Plant Delivery and Installation
Mechanical and electrical plant — air handling units, generators, boilers, pump sets — is typically delivered and positioned by HIAB, either through a roof opening or from the vehicle directly into a plant room at ground or first floor level. Our machinery transport service covers all plant delivery and positioning requirements.
Portable Cabins and Site Welfare
Setting up and striking site offices, drying rooms, toilets and welfare units is a core HIAB task throughout a project's life. We deliver, stack and remove units — see our portable cabin transport page for full details.
