Renewable energy is one of the fastest-growing sectors for HIAB transport across the UK. Whether it is a solar farm in the Midlands, a wind farm access road in Scotland, or a battery energy storage system (BESS) at a grid substation, HIAB crane trucks play a central role in the logistics and installation phases.
Solar Farm Development
Large utility-scale solar farms use thousands of driven piles, tracker frames and panel packs. HIAB trucks deliver materials to various parts of a site that may be several kilometres across, placing loads at exact grid positions to keep installation crews productive. We also handle transformer delivery and positioning for the grid connection substation.
Wind Energy Support
While nacelles and blades require specialist heavy-lift cranes, HIAB trucks support wind farm construction by delivering base anchor bolts, transformer equipment, control cabinets and smaller components to turbine pads. We also support operations and maintenance by delivering replacement parts to individual turbine locations.
Battery Energy Storage Systems
BESS containers — typically 20ft or 40ft ISO shipping containers housing battery modules — are placed and stacked by HIAB. Sites may require 10–50 containers arranged in rows, which we can sequence efficiently using our heavy-lift fleet. See our container transport page.
EV Charging Infrastructure
Rapid EV charging hubs require transformer units, substation kiosks and civils materials — all delivered and positioned by HIAB. As the EV charging network expands across motorway services and retail parks, this is an increasingly important part of our workload.
