Commercial signage installation — whether a roadside totem, a building fascia sign or a large-format pylon structure — almost always involves working at height with heavy or awkward loads. A HIAB crane truck is often the most practical and cost-effective solution.
Advantages of HIAB for Signage Work
Unlike a cherry picker, a HIAB crane can both lift the sign AND position it with precision at the required height and reach distance. Unlike scaffold, there is no erection or strike time. The crane positions the sign, the installers fix it from a MEWP or cherry picker working alongside, and the HIAB lowers its load once the sign is bolted. Total on-site time is typically measured in hours rather than days.
Sign Types We Handle
We regularly work with signage contractors on totem sign installations (steel column structures up to 10 metres height), building fascia panels, monolith signs, retail park directional signage, motorway service signage, and large format billboard structures. Each job involves lifting both the structural element and often the finished sign face separately.
Working Alongside MEWPs
Many signage installations use both a HIAB and a MEWP — the HIAB to lift and hold the sign structure while the MEWP positions the installers for bolting. We are experienced in coordinating our crane operations with access platform contractors and can liaise directly with the MEWP provider on sequencing.
Traffic Management
Roadside signage installation often requires lane closure or temporary traffic lights. We work with traffic management contractors regularly and can coordinate permit applications through our office. Always flag traffic management requirements at the quote stage.
